Massabesic Lake - Enjoy excellent fishing in the Merrimack Lakes Region and on Massabesic Lake, which is located on 2,500 acres approximately three and a half miles east of the downtown Manchester business district. Brook, Rainbow, Brown trout, Small & Largemouth Bass, Pickerel, Horned Pout, White Perch, Northern Pike, Black Crappie are common catch at this Lake. Strawbery Banke - Strawbery Banke is a 10-acre waterfront neighborhood and museum in Portsmouth, NH named by English settlers in 1630 for the wildberries found on the shores. White Mountain National Forest - Located 80 miles from the hotel, the White Mountain National Forest is one of the most heavily used forests in the country to backpack, camp, picnic, to enjoy scenic drives, ski and even to go dog sledding. The White Mountain National Forest was established in 1911 after the land had been ravaged by uncontrolled logging and the fires which raged across the denuded landscape. From the first 7,000 acres of land purchased in Benton, New Hampshire, the Forest has grown to almost 800,000 acres in New Hampshire and western Maine, including 112,000 acres of Congressionally-designated wilderness. You may see signs of timber harvesting as you travel through the White Mountain National Forest. Harvesting occurs on approximately 0.5% of the entire Forest at any given time, with about 29 million board feet of timber harvested annually. Harvesting is done to improve recreation, create trails or vistas, create wildlife habitat and to provide wood products.
Lake Winnipesaukee - Lake Winnipesaukee is the largest of New Hampshire's 270 lakes and ponds that make up the Lakes Region. Lake Winnipesaukee covers about 72 square miles and is broken up by small islands. The islands, such as Becky's Garden, Long Island and Big Island, bring a unique history and a character to the area. Stonedam Island has a wildlife preserve that can only be reached by boat and Rattlesnake Island boasts a 400-foot peak that offers great views down the lake. The lake's coves, bays, and beaches give it 182 miles of shoreline. Take a guided tour aboard the Mt. Washington, the Winni Water Taxi, or rent your own boat to the experience stunning views created by the lake, islands, and three surrounding mountain ranges. Aside from swimming and boating, fishing is very popular on Lake Winnipesaukee, where the catch includes salmon, rainbow trout, brook trout, lake trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pickerel, yellow perch, white perch, hornpout, cusk, smelt, sunfish, and whitefish. Great fishing spots are plentiful, from the lakes shallow coves to maximum depths of 213 feet. The Meredith Rotary Ice Fishing Derby in February is the largest winter event held in the Lakes Region.
Weirs Beach - The closest access point to Lake Winnipesaukee from Manchester, Weirs Beach is a wide, sandy beach with breathtaking views. The attached park is beautifully landscaped with picnic areas, a play area, the historical Endicott Rock monument, and a jetty to watch the parade of boats. At Weirs Beach, you can enjoy arcades, boat cruises, railroad rides, waterslides, miniature golf, go-carts, laser tag, and a drive-in movie theatre within walking distance of the boardwalk. Squam Lakes - Squam Lakes are some of the most pristine lakes in the New Hampshire lakes region.
